On Thursday we made our way to the IAB’s Macklin Street space for their annual celebration of all things sonic, Sound Investment. The prestigious day also coincided with the release of the season finale of the IAB podcast, which you can check out here if you haven’t heard it already.

We heard insights from across the industry, all hugely positive about our current position and the potential still to be explored in an ever-growing medium.

We busted the biggest myths in podcasting with Acast, celebrated the importance of music in our lives with Spotify, went on an emotional rollercoaster with talkSPORT, and heard an impassioned argument from Absolute Radio’s Paul Sylvester that if video couldn’t kill the radio star, then podcasting certainly won’t; especially not if radio continues to successfully personalise its output.

In the penultimate session, our own Global Head of Creative Kathleen Moroney plunged us into darkness and took us on a journey into the future of synthetic voice, and back again. Through the day we’d heard so much about the emotional power and commercial lucrativeness of voice: now was the moment to actually hear voices across the spectrum of human to nonhuman, exploring how the efficiency of synthetic voice will always stand apart from the emotional response that can be unlocked by real human voice. Not to mention the odd tear or two.
